German minister: New hearing, construction starts in 2019

The Fehmarnbelt construction will not be begun before 2019, writes Hamburger Abendblatt, after Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister for Transport Reinhard Meyer participated at a meeting with the transport committee of the Land. ”Yet again the German laws of procedure mean that a billion-euro project can only be realised after years of delays,” writes the newspaper.

According to Abendblatt, the reason for the delay is that the 10,000-page answers from Femern A/S to the 3,000 objections in the final German hearing period diverge significantly from the original 10,000-page application, which means a new hearing is required.
